The Route We Took on Naming Streets

Drone site overview April 2025

April 20 2025 | Overview of road development within the site – Lupine Lane leading into Goldenrod Crescent.

Pennock Village’s proposed site plan includes several blocks, or areas of development, connected through a series of streets and crescents. Over the course of fall 2024 & winter 2025, the Board came up with several topic themes to lead in a thought process on naming these streets.

It was determined that a common theme be followed for all street names. After several theme suggestions and discussions, the final theme of choice became Northwestern Ontario native wildflower and plant species.

Further research was done into which street names were already being used (pertaining to that same theme) in and around the Municipality of Oliver Paipoonge and City of Thunder Bay. A final list of potential regional native flower & plant-related names was compiled. An emailed poll was sent out to the Board, where each member was asked to submit their top five picks. The results from a final discussion between the Board resulted in these names:

• Lupine Lane — main drive leading off of Hwy 130
• Dandelion Drive — main crescent within green space off to the south
• Goldenrod Crescent — crescent block of six Garden Homes (Duplexes), north part of the site
• Buttercup Bay — proposed location of Villas (Townhomes)

Note: The Board would like to acknowledge that Dandelion Drive pays tribute to the late wife of Director Chair, James Collie.
